Power Products & Solutions offers VLF testing throughout Charlotte, Greenville, and the Western NC and Upstate SC regions. Our trained technicians perform very low frequency testing (usually between 0.1 – 1.0 Hz) to ensure the integrity of cable installation.
What is the Purpose of VLF Testing?
VLF testing uses very low frequency AC signals (0.1-1.0 Hz) to safely identify weak spots in cable insulation. This testing method provides a safer, non-destructive alternative to traditional hi-pot testing making it ideal for plants, data centers, and other commercial and industrial facilities.
Since VLF testing is a non-destructive cable testing method, it reduces the risk of damage to sensitive equipment by using low input frequency.
VLF testing is a common method for safely testing newly installed MV cables (generally in the 5 kV to 35 kV voltage range). You can schedule VLF testing for MV or HV cables for commissioning, routine cable maintenance, or post-repair in order to assess potential failures that could lead to downtime.
