Commissioning Service Details

There is a new buzz phrase making its rounds in the construction industry.  The new phrase is “Total Building Commissioning”.  In the past when commissioning of a system was part of the project specification or commissioning plan, it referred to the process by which the HVAC systems were to be tested and balanced to assure compliance with established industry standards and the owners requirements.  But times have changed.  With electrical systems and process equipment becoming more commonly integrated and becoming more difficult to start-up, the construction industry has adopted the practice of Total Building Commissioning.

Total Building Commissioning is a means in which all integrated systems and stand-alone systems can be validated and documented as meeting the design needs and requirements of the owner and that it will perform as designed.

In order to perform commissioning of the building systems, which includes architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical systems along with their respective subsystems, equipment and components; it requires the services of all parties involved in the design, ordering, installation, testing, or start-up of the systems.  This is where Power Products & Solution, a full accredited NETA test company with certified technicians, can be a strategical part of your overall project.

As electrical contractors, your main focus is to provide the services of installing and start-up of the electrical systems and equipment.  You may not have the time or personnel needed to perform commissioning as required per the commissioning plan or owner’s requirements.  But we do!  We have the necessary personnel with the qualifications to perform the services of commissioning on your project.  We can provide you with the services of coordinating and scheduling start-up testing, compiling and organizing O&M documentation, scheduling training sessions performed by equipment suppliers, obtaining O&M manuals from equipment suppliers, witness and documentation of testing of suppliers equipment, and perform the duties of a quality control person to assure that all workmanship complies with local and state laws and installed per manufacturers requirements.  We can also perform or assist you in the functional and performance testing of the designed systems to assure they comply with manufacturing, installation, and operating requirements and that they operated within range and deliver the expected performance requirements of the equipment.

If your company is called upon to perform the duties of commissioning on a project and you found yourself not having the time or resources to commit to the task of commissioning or you have a project that calls out commissioning in the project specifications, please give us call and we’ll be glad to be of service.
